Telling a forty years long story means writing an important page in the Italian industry history.
Established in 1979 and headquartered in S.Casciano Val di Pesa on the outskirts of Florence, Comas srl is experiencing a second life, after it has been acquired in 2015 by Franco Cappelli, who first joined the company as General Manager in 2012.
The company’s difficulties – he says – were inevitably linked to a guide that had now reached a landing point. I therefore decided to preserve the strong corporate know-how and relaunch it”. Thus, was born an industrial plan, developed over 10 years, divided into two parts.
The first of these has just ended, as Cappelli says: “The completion of this first phase involved a complete company restructuring and consolidation, through an increase in volumes and the sales network, processes, and the renewal of products. The second part, scheduled for the next five years, foresees further growth through M&A that will lead us to have an important critical mass. We are talking about stability, with margins that will allow us to invest in human resources, new technologies, logistics”.
Active in the pharmaceutical field, after having been engaged in the cosmetic one, Comas is recognized for its specific technological know-how.
“I do not deny that the last troubled period represented an important growth opportunity for us, having invested in the 10 previous years in the diagnostics sector, we have found ourselves Italian leaders in the test tube machines field used both for Covid-19 swabs and for serological” Cappelli points out.
Indeed, Comas had a rebound of + 80% on the volume of sales in 2020. And the recent acquisition of a historic company located in Pianoro, in the Bologna area known as the “Packaging valley”, shows the clear intentions for the imminent future.
“This strategic acquisition allows us to walk through the front door of the world of aseptic machines for vaccines production. We are talking about extreme specialization for the micro-dosing of powders, lyophilizates and liquids at very high speed”, “We are conversing with various players in the sector and we still have a goal to reach in the acquisitions for 2021” concludes Franco Cappelli.
